Death and Other Details season 1 came to a close with a shocking two-part finale full of plot twists and a cliffhanger ending that could set up a potential season 2. Death and Other Details episode 8 also ended with a cliffhanger as Viktor Sams’ team boarded the SS Verona to play a “game” with the passengers they were holding hostage. The interesting, potentially murderous game played out in the finale as all the Death and Other Details characters tried to make it out of the season alive.
The biggest question in Hulu’s newest murder mystery was who killed Viktor Sams, who was assumed to be the killer of both Imogene’s mom and Danny. However, the Death and Other Details season 1 finale revealed that Kira’s killer and Viktor Sams weren’t the same person, and that the reason Kira’s murder case went unsolved was because she was never actually murdered. The plot twists made viewers and characters alike question everything that had happened thus far in Death and Other Details.

Whose Body Was Found At The End Of Death And Other Details Season 1?
Will there be a season 2?
Just when it seemed like Death and Other Details season 1 would have a happy ending, another dead body appeared in the final moments. Imogene had traveled with her mom in what turned out to be a trap to arrest her for her actions under the alias Viktor Sams. After Kira was successfully taken away, Imogene, Leila, Teddy, and Jules went skiing together. Before they could make it down the mountain, they noticed a dead body hidden in the trees. The body had been violently impaled, and body parts were falling from above from the ski lift.

Death and Other Details season 1 ended just after the discovery, so it’s unclear just whose body they found, but it leaves room for a new mystery to be explored in a potential season 2. At the end of Death and Other Details season 1, Imogene took over the narrative duties from Rufus and informed the “readers” that she was just beginning as a detective. Finding out who was killed, why, and who killed them could be Imogene’s first case as lead detective in Death and Other Details season 2.

The most shocking reveal of the Death and Other Details season 1 finale was that not only was Kira alive, but she had been Viktor Sams all along. Rufus had assumed that Viktor Sams had killed Kira because they had a vendetta against the Colliers. Rufus had been partially correct, but he couldn’t have predicted that Kira survived the car explosion. Though the Colliers had tried to kill Kira the night she met with Alexandra at the diner, the attempt on her life was unsuccessful. Knowing she wasn’t safe, Kira decided to fake her death and run away.
As Viktor Sams, she blackmailed the Colliers and other wealthy wrongdoers, holding them accountable for their actions.
This, of course, meant leaving Imogene behind in Death and Other Details. Kira could have started her life over and forgotten all about the Colliers, but she decided to get her own twisted form of justice. As Viktor Sams, she blackmailed the Colliers and other wealthy wrongdoers, holding them accountable for their actions to try and make the world a better place.

Kira’s plan was built on the idea of an eye for an eye, and she went to great lengths to achieve it.
Though Kira was ultimately arrested, she succeeded in her plan as Viktor Sams to get revenge on the Colliers. By the end of Death and Other Details season 1, she’d poisoned Lawrence into a dementia diagnosis, drove Llewellyn to suicide, and inadvertently led to the death of Katherine, the stripping of their fortune, and the traumatization of Anna. Kira’s plan was built on the idea of an eye for an eye, and she went to great lengths to achieve it.

What Was The Purpose Of The Game In The Death And Other Details Finale?
Why Celia Chun won the game
Most of the two-part Death and Other Details season 1 finale was spent playing Viktor Sams’ “game.” In this game, after sending the “innocents” – the staff and children – to shore, the guests on the ship had an hour to bid in an auction for their lives. There was a bomb on the boat that was set to kill everyone left onboard except Viktor Sams’ team and eight other people who would escape in a helicopter with them. To earn a seat, the guests would have to outbid each other, with the only rule being not to cheat.

The game left many of the Death and Other Details characters scrambling as they tried to come up with enough money to save themselves and their loved ones. Two characters who refused to play the game were Anna and Celia. Anna because she was grieving her mom’s death and Celia because she couldn’t morally accept the game. As she told Eleanor, “I will not play a game where only the rich survive.”
As someone who shared a similar agenda to Viktor Sams, Celia demonstrated that she was not elitist like so many other Death and Other Details characters were.
In the end, it was Celia’s refusal to participate that won her the game. She was the richest person on the SS Verona and could have easily saved herself and her family and left everyone else to die. As someone who shared a similar agenda to Viktor Sams, Celia demonstrated that she was not elitist like so many other Death and Other Details characters were. However, the game was simply meant to teach everyone a lesson, and while the bomb did go off, everyone made it to shore safely.

Who Is Death And Other Details Season 1’s Villain?
Nobody was truly innocent
Kira’s methods were flawed, which is why she had to be stopped, but her intentions were good.
While Kira was revealed to be Viktor Sams in the Death and Other Details season 1 finale, it didn’t necessarily make her the show’s villain. Kira’s methods were flawed, which is why she had to be stopped, but her intentions were good. None of the people she went after and punished were innocent, proving that Death and Other Details had multiple villains. Another obvious villain was the Collier family, who had poisoned their workers, covered it up, and tried to have Kira killed in fear of being exposed.

Additional villains included Alexandra, who didn’t help Kira and took the Colliers’ blood money to fund her campaign. Father Toby also took advantage of the Colliers’ money and hid behind his faith. Even Rufus and Imogene weren’t entirely innocent in Death and Other Details, as Rufus had lied about solving his first major case and Imogene was stealing from the Colliers. One big lesson of Death and Other Details season 1 was that trying to defeat evil with evil just creates more evil.

Who Died In The Death And Other Details Season 1 Finale?
The finale had a lower body count than expected

After multiple deaths throughout Death and Other Details season 1, it wouldn’t have been surprising if the finale was a bloodbath. Despite all the characters being made to believe they were going to die, very few didn’t make it out alive. The main deaths in the Death and Other Details finale were Brad and his “bros.” They were killed by Viktor Sams for cheating in the game, as they’d stolen the helicopter, only for it to explode with them aboard. However, based on the rules of Viktor Sams’ game, more characters could have and perhaps should have died.
The seats on the helicopter were supposed to go to the highest bidder, but Eleanor, who didn’t have access to her family fortune, made a deal with Andreas. She secured herself a seat in exchange for being the straw bidder to drive the prices up, but since she wasn’t paying for her seat, Eleanor should have been killed. Additionally, Father Toby took advantage of Lawrence, lying to him when he wasn’t lucid, to get money for a seat. Yet, both of them survived the Death and Other Details finale.

Why Anna Killed Katherine
What does Kira want Anna to do?
Another major plot twist in the Death and Other Details season 1 finale revolved around Katherine’s death in the penultimate episode. Katherine’s dead body was discovered floating in the pool, but it wasn’t until the end of the finale that it was revealed that Anna had killed her. After learning that Lawrence had put a hit on Kira in Death and Other Details episode 8, Anna confronted her mother. In a state of rage, Anna struck her mother twice with a pool tool, accidentally killing her.

The reveal that Anna killed her mom helped explain Anna’s behavior in the Death and Other Details season 1 finale, as she turned to drugs and alcohol and stopped caring about her life. In what seemed like an act of protection, Kira discovered Anna with Katherine’s body and covered up her crime. However, it came with a price, as Andreas showed up at Anna’s home, ready to cash out on a favor for Viktor Sams. It’s unclear what Kira wants Anna to do, but she doesn’t seem to have a choice in Death and Other Details.
